A Towering Architectural Treasure
The site of the stunning basilica of St. Francis of Assissi has been used by a succession of churches since 1626. Since then, a half-dozen buildings have stood on the same ground. The current basilica was finished in 1886 and serves as the heart of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. Marvel at the giant rose window, the remarkable bronze doors, and the Romanesque Revival construction.
A functional cathedral, the building is home to traditional mass, choral performances, and other religious functions on a regular basis. That said, the building is open to the public on select days. There is even a gift shop!
