A Museum Rich in Southwest Art and History
Built in 1917, the New Mexico Museum of Art is the oldest art museum in the state. From the Pueblo Revival facade to the mixture of indigenous and European art inside, the museum is a unique blend of native and colonial culture. The museum’s permanent collection includes works by Los Cinco Pintores, Ansel Adams, Georgia O’Keeffe, The Taos Society, the Ashcan School, and Gustave Baumann, among others. Located just a block from the plaza, make sure to drop by and take a look.
With a collection of more than 20,000 works, the museum’s permanent archives include mediums and styles from every cultural and artistic movement to pass through Santa Fe in the last several hundred years. The museum is even home to the St. Francis Auditorium, where guests can enjoy performances from the Santa Fe Chamber Musical Festival, the Santa Fe Community Orchestra, and other groups throughout the year.
